COURSE STRUCTURE

5 day course

1 day pre-departure lectures - online
4 days practical in Morzine

The pre-course lectures give you the necessary background knowledge you need to approach the practical aspects of working in remote environments. The lectures are accessed online and available two weeks prior and for the duration of the course.
The 4 day practical course will encompass scenarios, workshops and discussion to deliver
an immersive experience of leadership and expedition medicine.

Leadership & Expedition Medicine - Summer: Checklist

Healthcare professional or medical student from the UK or the rest of our global community
OR
Mountain / expedition guide with at least 16 hours of First Aid Training

Physical capability to do some short hikes within the Alps, but no specific mountaineering or alpine skills are required

An adventurous spirit and an interest in expedition medicine and extreme environments

PRACTICAL COURSE – 4 DAYS

In this fresh approach to expedition medicine we will utilise the course time to immerse you in the situational and human factors that impact on your decision making around physical and mental health on expedition.

Our summer course is delivered through practical workshops, scenarios, discussions and debate.

Workshops will take place on the mountain and include: trauma, packaging casualties, fractures, dislocations and splinting, radio work, rope skills, and basic navigation.

You will experience one night in an alpine refuge and aim to summit a peak.

Endeavour courses deliver high-quality teaching in expedition and remote medicine. Teaching is led by experienced professionals in the field. It is immersive, holistic, and flexible to help all attendees meet their personal development goals.

All Endeavour Medical courses are directly aligned to the professional capabilities set out within UK Foundation Training and postgraduate specialty training curricula. Specifically, all courses cover clinical assessment and prioritisation, address complexity and uncertainty, communication skills, holistic planning, fitness for practice (well-being), ethical and legal principles, health promotion, illness prevention, and leadership.

Endeavour faculty are all familiar with principles of good supervision and training and can complete any work-based assessments undertaken during the course (including CEX and CBD). Reflective practice is encouraged.

This course offers 30 hours of CPD.

This course has been approved for the Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine credits through the Wilderness Medical Society. Actual credits awarded depend on personal credit needs and history

Location, TRAVEL & Accommodation:

The course is held in the centre of Morzine and you must book and pay for your own flights and transfers.

We all stay together in a beautiful French farmhouse in the centre of Morzine. This allows plenty of time for expedition and career discussions whilst cooking up a fondue. The penultimate night will be spent in a high alpine refuge after a day of hiking.
