Is this course for me? This course is ideal for anyone who works or plays in a water based environment and would like to enhance their medical and rescue skills: watersports instructors and enthusiasts, or health professionals living or working in marine environments.

The on-water simulations will sharpen your understanding of the human factors and leadership involved in marine emergency situations and hone your medical skills.
The course crescendos with an immersive overnight kayaking excursion along the picturesque Cornish coastline, complete with campfire camaraderie and stargazing.

Our course faculty boasts an impressive crew of RNLI doctors, surf lifesaving medics, and water safety specialists who have experience with high-profile events such as the London Olympics, off-shore sailing, paddle expeditions, and big wave surfing events.
We cultivate a peer to peer learning environment and enrich our courses through sharing each others knowledge and skills.

This course is more than just training;
it's about building the confidence and competence to practise marine medicine in aquatic settings.

COURSE STRUCTURE

7 day course
2 days pre-departure lectures - online
5 days practical through simulation, scenarios and workshops

The two days pre-course online learning achieves the knowledge acquisition necessary to confidently approach the practical skills.
The practical aspect of the course delivers immersive scenario based training to equip you to work in a marine environment.

Accommodation: caravan or chalet accommodation in Polzeath + overnight camp
Catering: meals provided, team effort with cooking
Equipment: all vessels and safety equipment provided

MARINE MEDICINE COURSE Checklist

Healthcare professional or health care student OR
Outdoor instructor or guide with previous first aid qualification.
Watersports enthusiast with basic first aid qualification
An adventurous spirit and confidence swimming in ocean conditions.

    • Moving and packaging casualties

    • Fractures, dislocations, and splinting

    • Coasteering / kayaking scenarios

    • History taking in remote locations

    • Medical emergencies and illness on expedition

    • Expedition planning and preparation

    • Expedition paddle / hike (condition dependent)

    • Camp set up and public health

    • Campfire mental health and wellbeing workshop

    • Wound and burns

    • Advanced wound closure
